Looks like Nicki Minaj is back in Hip-Hop mode. Yesterday, the New York emcee released a new track titled ‘The Pinkprint Freestyle’, which sees her at her best lyrically, reminding fans, haters and peers why she’s maintained her position at the top thus far.
Earlier this Summer, DJ Mustard revealed his big new single ‘Don’t Hurt Me’, which features assistance from Nicki Minaj and Jeremih. Now, we get to check out a fun animated visual (directed by Felix Colgrave) courtesy of TIDAL. Check it out above.
As part of MyMixtapez new Unleashed interview series, Meek Mill sits down with Charm LaDonna to speak on some topics that he’s glanced over before yet never thoroughly addressed — namely, his highly-publicised “beef” with Drake and relationship with Nicki Minaj. Definitely worth watching above.
UPDATE: According to Philly.com, Drake fans actually called prosecutor Noel DeSantis phone during the whole ‘Back To Back’-ghostwriting controversy in an attempt to get Meek Mill arrested. We fail to find any words to describe these people.
Even throughout the ups and down of his career, Meek Mill has had a cloud hanging over his head since 2009 — a drugs and guns conviction that has seen the Philly artist in and out of prison. Now it looks like the powers that be are trying to put his life to a halt yet again; this time, it’s for accompanying Nicki Minaj to an awards show in Los Angeles without permission from the court.
Meek was forced to go to court early Thursday to answer to the allegations; alongside him was Minaj, who testified that, although her boyfriend (and soon-to-be husband?) has work to do on himself, her existence in his life is and will continue to help:
She’s not going to be the one sleeping alone if he goes to jail. I am. He’s not perfect, but I can’t believe how much he’s changed. He doesn’t have a lot of structure. He can be irresponsible… Since I’ve come in his life, I think I’ve been working on that a little bit. …He’s just getting accustomed to being an adult.
Meek Mill also spoke on his current issues via Instagram:
If you missed last night’s big TIDAL celebration (which featured JAY Z, Lil’ Wayne, Usher, Nick Jonas, Nas, Rick Ross, Meek Mill and more), then here’s one of the bigger highlights: during Beyoncé’s headlining performance, she brought out collaborator Nicki Minaj for a dope rendition of ‘Feeling Myself’ (taken from Minaj’s latest album The Pinkprint.
The Weeknd’s chart-topping single ‘The Hills’ just got a season-long extension: the Canadian singer just dropping a couple of remixes featuring some assistance from Eminem and Nicki Minaj. Massive.
You can check those out below; we also included last night’s Saturday Night Live performance by The Weeknd and Nicki Minaj for her version of the track. If you haven’t already, get The Weeknd’s latest — Beauty Behind The Madness — over at iTunes.
UPDATE: Guess who has an opinion about Nicki’s comments toward Miley? Azealia Banks. Yep.
Nicki Minaj scored a cover feature in New York Times Magazine…dubbed ‘The Culture’ issue, the interview saw the current queen of Hip-Hop speaking on her body, Meek Mill and Drake’s “beef” (“I hate it. It doesn’t make me feel good. You don’t ever want to choose sides between people you love. It’s ridiculous. I just want it to be over”) and much more.
She also had some words toward Miley Cyrus, who she recently G-checked during this year’s Video Music Awards:
The fact that you [Miley] feel upset about me speaking on something that affects black women makes me feel like you have some big balls. You’re in videos with black men, and you’re bringing out black women on your stages, but you don’t want to know how black women feel about something that’s so important? Come on, you can’t want the good without the bad. If you want to enjoy our culture and our lifestyle, bond with us, dance with us, have fun with us, twerk with us, rap with us, then you should also want to know what affects us, what is bothering us, what we feel is unfair to us. You shouldn’t not want to know that.
Another notable moment in the interview: when the interviewer (Vanessa Grigoriadis) made the grave mistake of asking Nicki if she thrives off drama…
As soon as I said the words, I wished I could dissolve them on my tongue. In pop-culture idiom, ‘‘drama’’ is the province of Real Housewives with nothing better to do than stick their noses where they don’t belong. I was more interested in a different kind of drama — the kind worthy of an HBO series, in which your labelmate is releasing endless dis tracks against your boyfriend and your mentor is suing your label president for a king’s ransom. But the phrase I used was offensive, and even as I tried to apologize, I only made matters worse.
Naturally, it didn’t end well. Check out the full interview here to see what we mean.
In the latest chapter of Lil Wayne versus Birdman, Wayne is now claiming that fellow Cash Money/Young Money artists Nicki Minaj, Drake and Tyga were all ripped off by his estranged “father” — and he apparently has statements from all three to prove it.
According to TMZ, Drake and Tyga have given statements that corroborate with Wayne, and Nicki’s end even (allegedly) states that Young Money failed to pay producers (Wayne’s team claims that this was Cash Money’s job to do, not Young Money’s).
Over all, Young Money says that Cash Money owes much of a $100 million advance that was given to the umbrella company by Universal Records; Birdman’s team counters by stating that not only has Cash Money paid up the owed money ($20 million to the label, $12 million to Wayne as part of an album deal and $70 million in advances, Young Money’s stable has only given them 12 albums — 8 short of the agreed number.
Nicki Minaj is expanding further into the TV/movie realm, which her next venture being a scripted comedy series based on her life growing up in Queens, NYC. A pilot for the yet-to-be-named show (which Minaj will both produce and appear in) will be filmed this Winter.
Says the star recording artist:
This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on. I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.
Meek Mill and Nicki Minaj have a new photo spread in the latest issue of GQ, and Meek Mill blessed the fans with some dope snaps from the feature (shot by Ellen von Unwerth). In addition, the couple also spoke on a variety of topics, from their own relationships to recent beefs that Meek and Nicki have has with Drake and Taylor Swift, respectively.
You can check that out (source) and the photos below. More can be found over at GQ.
Once again, Azealia Banks is back in the news for making negative comments about an artist. In this case, it’s three: following the Video Music Awards, Banks decided to give her take on both Miley Cyrus’ appearance, as well as the “beefs” that have risen between Miley, Nicki Minaj and (previously) Taylor Swift. You can check out all of those tweets below.
The crazy thing is, we have been feeling a lot of what Azealia Banks is saying, but it doesn’t quite change the perception of her after seeing the emcee pretty much pick fights and send for seemingly every person she’s crossed paths with — on either side of the Atlantic. We’d really love to hear nothing but new music from the woman, at this point.
