Ian Connor Talks Meeting Kanye West, Social Media & More In New Interview

Ian Connor was recently featured in Montreal’s SSENSE, where he spoke on his style, social media vs. real life, his favourite labels/designs and more. You can check out the full feature here; below, we included an excerpt on how he met Kanye West (for whom he’s a creative consultant), which was apparently through fellow tastemaker Virgil Abloh:

It was over years, since I was under Virgil at like 19. When Virgil reached out to me I didn’t know who he was – I didn’t know what a creative director was, what the job titled consisted of to Kanye. But the n*gga I actually did look up to was this guy A$AP Bari, who is Rocky’s best friend. I saw that he looked up to Virgil, so it’s like a chain. Just like the kids who look up to me who don’t know who Bari is, but they know I look up to Bari, they’re gonna look up to him just because that’s your idol’s idols, you know what I’m saying? Like it’s your father’s father, so you automatically gotta fuck with your grandfather. And that’s what it was with Virgil. And it wasn’t until around YEEZY Season, once I started doing work with Kanye and shit, that’s when Ye started to really fuck with me, see what’s inside my head.

Stormzy Gets On His Model Ting (Via Mr. Porter); Reveals His Top 5 Favourite Grime Songs

Much like Grime peer Skepta, Stormzy is looking to expand his reach further into the fashion world, apparently: the South London emcee has connected with Mr. Porter for a dope new feature that sees him trying on the latest digs and speaking on his life and career.

You can check out some photos above (courtesy of Stefan Heinrichs) and an excerpt (along with his impressive top 5 favourite Grime songs) below. The full feature can be found over at Mr. Porter.

So, is it fair to say Stormzy doesn’t normally wear Balenciaga? “I’m proper simple,” he says. “I just wear whatever. When I was invited on Jools Holland, and that’s a prestigious TV show, I was thinking, ‘What do I wear?’ But I thought there’s no point thinking about it. If I have to think about it, then I’m not being myself. So I wore what I like, which is a tracksuit.” Just another example of the authenticity that’s brought him a long way from Thornton Heath, and promises to take him much, much further.

1. Lethal Bizzle – Pow!
2. Wiley – What Do U Call It
3. Dizzee Rascal – Creeper Freestyle
4. Skepta Feat. Jme – That’s Not Me
5. Kano – P’s & Q’s

Jaden Smith Appears In Louis Vuitton’s Womenswear Campaign

Categories NEWS, STYLEPosted on

Always the one to blur gender boundaries, Jaden Smith decided to take part in Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2016 womenswear campaign alongside three other models. New pics from said campaign were revealed by the brand’s artistic director, Nicolas Ghesquière, via his Instagram (above and below).

Nothing really bad to say here, we guess — the kid can literally do whatever it is he wants.

WOW: 2 Chainz Made $2 Million Off His ‘Dabbin’ Santa’ Sweaters

Categories NEWS, STYLEPosted on

What song u think Santa is listening to on this sweater??? (Link in bio for whoever tryna turn up for the holidays) #dab

One of the cool holiday trends in Hip-Hop this year was the inclusion of the legendary “ugly sweater” — one that traditional families all wear for Christmas photos and the like. The difference is, they (Hip-Hop) made it their own, from the Drake ‘Hotling Bling’ collection to the ‘Free Gucci’ line (check out many of those here). The biggest was easily that of the ‘Dabbin Santa’, created and distributed by none other than 2 Chainz (who wears one of the big sellers below):

Big Shit #TRU

Forbes recently did a feature that revealed just how well 2 Chainz’ ugly sweater line did this holiday — which the help of a 70-person team, the Atlanta emcee was able to collect $2 million (£1.34 million) in sales. If you follow 2 Chainz’ social media accounts, then it shouldn’t come as much of surprise: many of our favourite athletes, celebrities and models all spread the word by purchasing their own.

Says 2 Chainz, revealing that the sweater was in no way an “overnight success”:

We’ve been trying with a bunch of designs for a couple years now. This is just timing meets opportunity. There’s the whole dab thing, and Atlanta’s always been somewhere that actually moves the culture a little bit. We have been the backbone of hip-hop for the past couple years. So with dabbing coming out of Atlanta, it just began to grow legs and start moving on its own.

Don’t think that the money simply went into his pocket, either: 2 Chainz T.R.U. Foundation used much of the proceeds to give back, from giving a disabled veteran new furniture and a year’s rent to giving a family who lost everything in a home fire a new minivan. Very dope.

Drake’s October’s Very Own Is Opening A Flagship Store In L.A.

Categories NEWS, STYLEPosted on

Tomorrow, Drake and his fashion line October’s Very Own (OVO) will be opening a new brick-and-mortar store in Los Angeles, and — for whatever reason — his announcement came via an unintentionally-hilarious video (above).

Hopefully, we’ll be seeing pics and video from the grand opening when it goes down; for those not in L.A. (i.e. us), you can get your gear via OVO’s website. There’s a location (the first) in Toronto, as well.

Big congrats are in order for music-turned-fashion god Kanye West; Footwear News (FN) has given him their Shoe Of The Year award for his hugely-popular Yeezy Boost collaboration with adidas. He accepted the honour during FN’s 29th Annual Achievement Awards in New York.

Above, you can check out his acceptance speech, which is as Kanye as you’d imagine (this is definitely a good thing).

Idris Elba Launches New Menswear Line With Superdry

Categories NEWS, STYLEPosted on

This is dope: actor-artist Idris Elba has launched a new collaboration with British-made, Japanese-inspired brand Superdry. Alongside the clothing entity’s co-founders James Holder and Julian Dunkerton, Elba created a 250-piece high-end menswear collection, which includes largely dark colours applied to a variety of items (largely outerwear, as well as shirts, trousers and more).

The original launching event took place at Superdry’s Regent Street store. Said Elba on the collaboration in a statement:

We’re three British lads who’ve worked hard to get to where we are. I’m passionate about what I do and always give 100%. If I had the opportunity to have any influence in fashion, this is it. I’m not a designer, but I’m passionate about clothes and I know how men want to look.

You can check out Superdry’s promotional video above; below as a few shots from the Regent Street launch (courtesy of Superdry’s Instagram).

Tom Ford Reveals New Lipstick In Honour Of Drake

Categories NEWS, STYLEPosted on

Seems a bit odd, but such is the fashion world. As part of their second annual Lips & Boys collection, Tom Ford has revealed a new lipstick that is inspired by (and will be named after) Drake, which is arriving in stores 30th October. The lipstick will only be available for a limited time; you can read more about it here.

We just want to make sure we understand: Tom Ford is releasing lipstick for men (like, lip gloss? lip balm? Chapstick?)? This is a normal male item? Will Drake be promoting this as well (as in, like, wearing it?)?

Krept & Konan Are The Newest Faces Of PUMA (UPDATE)

Categories NEWS, STYLEPosted on

UPDATE: We’ve included their new interview series with PUMA and Footasylum below.

Respect to Krept & Konan: the London duo has recently inked a new deal to become the faces of PUMA for their ‘Evolution’ collaboration with Footasylum.

Says PUMA:

With Krept and Konan constantly pushing and evolving the boundaries of the UK hip hop scene, they’re the perfect ambassadors for the PUMA Evolution pack. The collection constantly evolves season on season, taking staple apparel pieces and creating styles that are edgy but relevant. Fresh looks have been created that are steeped in sport but are light and smooth enough to make todays scene.”

Featuring sweat bottoms, hooded tops, sweat shirts and t-shirts, the collection includes zipped pockets fused with rubber lining to improve water resistancy as well as improved fits and minimal branding. Using a simple colour palette of neutral tones, the collection can easily be mixed and matched or worn alone, making the Evolution pack an instant wardrobe essential for this winter.

Congrats to the duo!

Kanye West Gives President Obama Two Pairs Of Yeezys, Auditions For ‘American Idol’

Two stories here:

First, we came across the above Instagram fro Kim Kardashian, which reveals that Kanye West blessed United States President Barack Obama with his highly-coveted Yeezy Boost 350 and 750 creps. This all probably followed their presumed path-crossing during a recent Democratic National Committee fundraiser in San Francisco (which also Obama telling a few ‘Ye for President jokes). From one U.S. President to a future one, we guess?

In other news, Kanye also auditioned for American Idol; initially, the reaction was surprise and shock, until we actually thought about it:

  • His audition saw him rapping the lyrics to his hit single ‘Gold Digger’, which certainly delighted judge Jennifer Lopez (she was name-checked in the song); and
  • We can see Kim Kardashian waiting post-audition.

Second reaction? Promotion, promotion, promotion. You can see a quick clip of that below (a full clip was apparently forced to be taken down).

Lol #KanyeWest showed up the Idol auditions today. JLo was feeling it. [via @ibnjasper]
