This April, the world would have witnessed an episode of Urban Myths that was to feature actor Joseph Fiennes (who is White) playing as Michael Jackson (who — despite whatever joke you put forth — was not White). The episode was supposed to focus on Jackson fleeing New York with Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando during the September 11th attacks (a long-standing rumour).
Now, it’s been revealed that the show was pulled following complaint from the Jackson family…here are social media-based examples:
@TheMJCast i'm so incredibly offended by it, as i'm sure plenty of people are as well, and it honestly makes me want to vomit.
Sky — the broadcaster where the episode was to be aired — has released a statement regarding the decision to keep White Mike off-air:
We have taken the decision not to broadcast Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon, a half hour episode from the Sky Arts Urban Myths series, in light of the concerns expressed by Michael Jackson’s immediate family. We set out to take a light-hearted look at reportedly true events and never intended to cause any offence. Joseph Fiennes fully supports our decision.
Back when this was all revealed, the actor who playing MJ, Joseph Fiennes, tried to defend the role, saying that — despite being “as shocked as you may be” — Michael’s “pigmentation issue” meant that “he was probably closer to my colour than his original colour.”
On 3rd March, superstar Ed Sheeran will be releasing his third album ÷, of which the artwork (above) and tracklisting (below) have been revealed. Check those out and pre-order the project via iTunes.
Currently, Sheeran is on a bit of a press blitz in America; we’ve included a couple of clips from that (a quick stop with The Breakfast Club and a live performance of ‘Shape of You’ for SiriusXM’s Hits 1) below as well.
C Biz is a free man. The £R artist has seen his trial collapse after a prosecution witness changed his story; in all, four defendants were acquitted of killing Oliver Tetlow. The 27-year-old was gunned down, (at the time) assumed to be in an act of revenge following a jewellery theft.
DVS — real name Courtney Hutchinson — has been given 23 years for raping, brutally beating and torturing a women over three days before she managed to escape. The 32-year-old — who plead guilty to rape and false imprisonment last Summer — was sentenced on Monday and will remain as a sex offender for life.
Said Detective Sergeant Jimi Tele from Newham police:
I would like to praise the bravery and determination of the victim of this truly harrowing ordeal. Her resoluteness in coming forward and working with the police in securing the imprisonment of a truly dangerous offender is worthy of the highest recognition.
Courtney Hutchinson subjected his victim to the most shocking and repeated levels of violence. It was her determination, in company with the skill of the investigation team, that allowed the full severity of the attack to be revealed and that ultimately led to Hutchinson’s arrest and conviction.
The level of violence he inflicted was so severe it demonstrated his total disregard for the victim as a human being, subjecting her to levels of callousness and danger that are rarely seen. The evidence against him was overwhelming but the fact that he decided to plead guilty, removing further ordeal for the victim, can only be welcomed.
The victim and the public can be safe in knowing that Hutchinson no longer poses a risk to them as he begins a significant term of imprisonment. Finally, I would like to add that the Metropolitan Police Service is committed to pursuing those who commit violence and particularly those most dangerous offenders. I am conscious that there may be others who have suffered similar violence, whether at the hands of this offender or another, and I would urge them to approach the police.
UPDATED: A new report adds an additional individual to the list of people arrested (below).
It looks like the law enforcement in Paris have been doing their job. Yesterday, 16 people were arrested in connection with a massive jewellery heist that left Kim Kardashian being held hostage at gunpoint. The arrests took place in various areas around the city, and many of the accused were much older men with ties to organised crime.
Apparently, one person was tied to Kim and Kanye West’s Paris residence via DNA; Paris simply allowed that person to eventually lead them to the others.
…which pretty much created 2017 first slew of awesome memes to laugh at. What we didn’t expect was for Meek Mill to respond with a petty post, which he later removed: basically, he decided to throw a jab at his ex regarding shoes she wore in a past music video with Ciara…
Entering the 2016-17 NBA season, there were bound to be a lot of surprises. After one of the most exciting finals games in the history sport, everyone knew that the Cleveland Cavaliers were the king of the east and that the Golden State Warriors will have a vengeful grip on the Western Conference along with the Tim Duncan-less Spurs. Still, one of the reasons the NBA has been so successful over the years has been the aspect of “dark horse” teams that catapult towards success while being under everyone’s radar. One of the best examples of a successful dark horse team would Hakeem Olajuwon’s first championship as the 4th seed in 1993. This article will cover some of the most intriguing dark horse teams this season, detailing how they can find success in the postseason.
Beginning the season after a very disappointing first round exit against the Warriors in the playoffs last year, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey retooled the team over the offseason. With Dwight Howard leaving to Atlanta in free agency, the Rockets were officially Harden’s team. Morey recognized that and appointed offensive mastermind Mike D’Antoni as head coach along with two excellent shooters in Eric Gordon and Ryan Anderson. Since then, the Rockets’ experiment has worked well. Entering the season predicted to go 45- 37 by FiveThirtyEight , the Rockets, are now predicted to go 59 – 23. Averaging 120 points in the month of December, the Rockets are currently ranked third in the Western Conference and have the ability to make a deep playoff run with this new offense. The Rocket’s unprecedented success has made them the most surprising team of the year with the top Candidate for MVP in James Harden and coach of the year in D’Antoni. The Houston Rockets are the biggest dark horse team this season.
Primarily known for a ludicrous trade deal involving many first-round draft picks with the Nets in 2013, the Boston Celtics schedule began this season with a sluggish start to the season due to a lot of injuries. However, after acquiring former Hawks center and power forward, Al Horford during the offseason, the Celtics improved on a lot of what led to their first round exit last year. With their full roster in play, Boston has gone 8-2 in their last ten games good for 3rd in the Eastern Conference. The last few games have seen 5’8” point guard Isiah Thomas deliver All-Star play averaging 28 points and 5 assists per game, as he scored a career-high 52 points on December 30th. Together with defensive shooting guard Avery Bradley, Boston’s backcourt has proved paramount to team’s winning efforts. If the roster stays together without any injuries, the Celtics are expected to be a dark horse in the Eastern Conference and give the Cavaliers a real challenge in the playoffs.
Currently, at fifth place in the Western Conference standings, the Utah Jazz do not look like a threat. However, looks can be deceiving, and the Jazz can prove to be deadly when need be. With Rudy Gobert’s 9 foot 7-inch wingspan at the center position, and a very slow pace, Jazz basketball is very effective vs. fast paced teams with a weakness at the center position like the Golden State Warriors. One of the reasons behind the Jazz’s dismal standing has been injury concerns. Without star guard George Hill in the rotation, the Jazz team is not showing its true colors. Hill’s return and a fully healed roster will make the Jazz one of the more freighting dark horse candidates in the Western Conference.
Uh-oh. It’s being reported that RUN-DMC is coming for mega-retailers Walmart and Amazon over alleged copyright infringement…and they’re looking to be paid $50 million for the trouble.
According to the lawsuit (via TMZ), the superstores have been advertising, selling, manufacturing, promoting and distributing various products with the legendary Rap group’s logo (glasses, hats, shirts, you name it). In addition, RUN-DMC have also referred to a $1.6 million agreement with adidas to validate the amount they’re requesting.

UPDATE: Thames Valley police have revealed that initial tests to see what caused George Michael’s passing have been inconclusive. Following Thursday’s post-mortem, further tests will be carried out over the coming weeks.
Damn. It’s been revealed by his publicist that music icon George Michael has passed away at the age of 53. According to his attorney, his death was a result of heart failure; Thames Valley Police are still investigating.
Drake is a cold, calculating motherf***er. Seriously. This guy has been taking girls from his enemies for a while now — ex. Rihanna from Chris Brown, Serena Williams from Common — and the fact that he can continue to do this (and the women are actually allowing this) is an amazing thing to behold. Here’s his latest:
Yep. That’s Drizzy with Jennifer Lopez. J-Lo. A women who’s been in plenty of fantasies since she first burst out on the scene. Here’s something else: Lopez is also the ex-girlfriend of Sean “Diddy” Combs…as in, the same Diddy who slapped/punched/sonned Drake over a song last year. This means that Drake has somehow talked J-Lo into banging him (or giving off the appearance of) for a collaboration just to get back at Diddy. You can check out more of this new union below (as well as a teaser of said collab). Who’s next?
UPDATE: Funk Flex decided to give his two cents (which you can see below) and it’s hilarious.
Everyone’s favourite dirtbag is back in the news for more Hip-Hop — this time, Mr. Martin Shkreli claims to have in his possession a copy of Lil Wayne’s now-mythical Tha Carter V album. Taking it a step further, Shkreli revealed this by getting on Periscope and teasing what’s supposed to be one of the album’s tracks. According to TMZ, not only is it real, but that Wayne’s camp is also looking into how Shkreli got a hold of the track in the first place. No surprise there.
Deep down, we’re hoping that somebody frees this project somehow. UPDATE: Shkreli recently did an interview with DJ Akademiks and — during — broke down how he got his hands on Wayne’s music (below).
UPDATE: Chicago rapper Mick Jenkins is joining Little Simz for her Roundhouse event (below). Get your tickets for that here.
Despite a somewhat relatively quiet 2016, it’s clear that Little Simz has been working hard this year. Case in point: the London emcee has announced her new album titled Stillness In Wonderland, set for release early next year…in addition, that album will also be accompanied by a big event titled Welcome To Wonderland: The Experience (above), which will take place in Roundhouse 12th February and will see her joined by a slew of special guests. Finally, Simz will also be releasing a freaking comic book, written by her manager Eddie ‘Versetti’ Smith and drawn by McKay Felt.
