For those who don’t know: Richard Russell is a co-founder/owner of XL Recordings; in addition to that, he’s also a pretty decorated producer, having created music with the likes of Gil Scott-Heron, Bobby Womack and Damon Albarn.
Recently, Russell took to his radio show to reveal a new project titled Everything Is Recorded, which will feature appearances from The Internet’s Syd, Mark Ronson, Albarn, Peter Gabriel and more…he also liberated a couple of tracks that he did with Sampha, titled ‘Close But Not Quite’ (54-minute mark) and the aforementioned project’s title track (1:13-minute mark). Check that out and the full stream below.
Last week, Frank Ocean was back on the digital airwaves for the second episode of blonded RADIO (Beats 1), where he decided to unveil a new track titled ‘Chanel‘. Then — before the show was over — Ocean hit the listeners over the head with a remix of the track, which features A$AP Rocky. Check that awesomeness out below.
New mother Marsha Ambrosius is back with a poignant new track for ‘Don’t Wake The Baby’, which speaks on much-needed “lovin'” even with a newborn. Speaking to The FADER, the singer-songwriter revealed that the song was originally written for another R&B star:
I wrote it for Beyoncé… It’s my interpretation of still wanting to f*** after an argument with your spouse — just DON’T WAKE THE BABY!!! I’m a new parent and I barely sleep as it is. So if she’s sleep, BE QUIET!!! Shhhhhhh.
Check out ‘Don’t Wake The Baby’ below.
In addition to his critically-acclaimed album Drunk, Thundercat also has another trick up his sleeve in the form of ‘Hi’, which features Mac Miller; the track apparently only exists on the Japanese release (and, now, via the digital airwaves). Check it out above.
Zedd continues his string of hit Pop collaborations with his latest single ‘Stay’, which features Canadian star Alessia Cara. Both artists explained how the collaboration came together and it’s meaning:
I think this song is right in the middle between where Alessia is musically and where I am and that’s what’s so exciting about it… I’ve been trying to knock down barriers around music genres and this is another step for me to walk towards a musical future where I can create any genre I want without people putting me in a box. – Zedd
It still feels like me, just an elevated pop sound… I don’t know that I would be in this bold on my own stuff so it’s cool to try these things with collaborators…Zedd was really hands on and made sure I was involved in every part of the process. – Alessia Cara
