Kanye West just proved that The Life Of Pablo is in fact a true success, even though 1.) it’s been streaming via TIDAL for a while now, and 2.) he kept updating the project even after it’s release.
How? The Life Of Pablofinally made it to Apple Music and Spotify (and other streaming platforms) last week, after it’s initial release 14th February; despite this, the album still made it to number 1 (‘Ye’s seventh overall) on the American charts (Billboard). It’s also the first album to get the top spot by majority of streams: of the 94,000 units sold, only 28,000 were pure album sales…66,000 units sold come from 99 million U.S. streams.
It should also be noted that 1.) while The Life Of Pablo could be streamed at will, fans could also purchase the album as a while, not individual songs, and 2.) there aren’t any physical CDs, only digital. Clearly, Kanye’s star power remains in full effect.
