The anti-Dr. Luke campaign continues. Within a new Billboard feature on Kesha’s woes lies quotes from her mother, Rosemary Patricia “Pebe” Sebert, which affirms the abuse that Kesha revealed in her attempts to break away from the producer contractually:
It was like someone who beats you every day and hangs you from a chain and then comes in and gives you a piece of bread. Luke would say, ‘You look nice today’, and send her into hysterics of happiness because she was programmed to expect nothing but abuse.
Kesha’s allowed to work with another producer. But Luke gets to approve them. He gets to approve of anyone she works with. He has final say over everything…It’s his company, he’s CEO, and he’s not obligated to do what Sony thinks is best.
Dr. Luke basically owns Kesha until her death. He doesn’t have to give her any money and is under no time constraints. She can’t legally put any new music out, or he can and will sue her.
Through Billboard, Pebe also spoke pretty candidly on the alleged rape, which reportedly occurred in October 2005 following a birthday party for Nicki Hilton:
I wanted Kesha to come forward a long time ago and end this relationship with Dr. Luke immediately after the [alleged] rape. But if she wanted to have a shot at the music business, she had no choice but [to work with him].
