Black Eyed Peas frontman (and singer/rapper/songwriter/producer in his own right) will.i.am is once again delving into the technology world with a new product he calls the Puls.
Puls represents my passion for, and my mission to marry design and advanced technology – to create a new breed of wearable device that leapfrogs what is currently on the market.
We designed AneedA from the ground up, taking her from an innovative concept to a reality. You speak, she listens. You ask, she delivers. You need something, AneedA’s ready.
The Puls is a smartwatch that differs from his competitors (namely, Apple and their iWatch) by standing on its own without requiring connection to a smartphone. Using the term “watch” seems to only be relative, though:
This is not a watch, by any means. Watches don’t have SIM cards. This is a new type of communication.
The Puls was created by 35 engineers within will.i.am’s own company i.am+ over the course of two and a half years; below are a few features:
The Puls is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip with 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, 3G, WiFi, and Bluetooth connectivity;
It has a knockoff of Apple’s Siri called AneedA, which serves as your virtual personal assistant;
The device — with the partnership of 7digital — also provides a built-in music app that lets you store music and stream from a digital service;
Speaking of apps, you’ll have access to Facebook, Twitter, maps, fitness tracking and more…developers will also be able to create and publish their own apps as well; and
A QWERTY keyboard. Seems kind of small, but eh…
Those who want to purchase the watch-er, device/cuff for all of its features will have to get it through O2 (Americans will need AT&T)…as far as the price, will.i.am is only stating that it will be “affordable”.
