Jay Sean Drops New Visual For ‘Tears In The Ocean’; Splits From Cash Money
Jay Sean has recently revealed a new visual for his single ‘Tears In The Ocean’, which will appear on his forthcoming mixtape Mistress II. This new visual also marks a new step for Sean, who has also revealed his departure from Birdman & Slim’s Cash Money Records.
The singer recently spoke to Billboard on the amicable split — and why he realised that he was doing music for the wrong reasons — below:
I had and still maintain a great relationship with Slim and Baby… They believed in me and my talent and our partnership obviously garnered a lot of pop success.
It got to the point where I was chasing pop success and ‘the smash’ when really my heart wasn’t in it anymore… That’s not why I got into this game.
When Sade drops a new album, you know she’s not going to be suddenly singing over a EDM beat produced by the hottest DJ at the time or jumpin’ on the bandwagon of what the latest ‘sound’ is. You should be able to do you. That’s what differentiates an artist from a singer.
Makes sense to us. Jay Sean follows in the footsteps of other artists like Busta Rhymes and Mystikal, who also recently split from the brand. Given recent events, we would expect Tyga to follow suit shortly thereafter….it’s pretty clear that, right now, the direction of Cash Money (and Young Money) is completely focused on huge successes Drake, Nicki Minaj, and (obviously) Lil Wayne.
In related news, a fake Jay Sean somehow managed to get into this year’s MOBOs Awards. You can check that hilarity out below.
