Internet Trolls Could Get Two Years In Prison Under New Laws
Under potential new laws, internet “trolls” could be locked up for two year, if Justice Secretary Chris Grayling has anything to do with it…the current law holds a maximum of six months.
A related story regarding harassment on the web is of TV presenter Chloe Madeley (above), who received threats after backing her mother Judy Finnigan’s comments downplaying Ched Evans rape conviction (and rape, period); this subsequently led to some online individuals threatening to rape Madeley as a result.
These internet trolls are cowards who are poisoning our national life. No-one would permit such venom in person, so there should be no place for it on social media. That is why we are determined to quadruple the current six-month sentence.
This is a law to combat cruelty – and marks our determination to take a stand against a baying cyber-mob. We must send out a clear message – if you troll you risk being behind bars for two years.
As far as Madeley, she agreed with the proposed laws while also pushing for the regulation of social media:
My full statement. No, I don't think I'm the first person to be trolled, nor do I think threats are freedom of speech. pic.twitter.com/z4k7B6cNRG
