Lauryn Hill’s Bad Reputation For Performances Comes To A Head In London
Ever since she returned to music, Lauryn Hill’s reputation during live performances has — for lack of a better word — deteriorated, with reports of severe tardiness and renditions of classic songs so sped up or altered that they’re impossible to enjoy (and more).
Those very reviews are now coming out of Ms. Lauryn’s latest 2-night gig at the Brixton Academy, so much so that the jeers have successfully trended on Twitter over the weekend (many of those Tweets are available for you here). You can also check out an example of what everyone’s talking about above (source).
Below is one of the finer moments of her weekend show, but the uploader, Rayolite, also added the below summary of the performance as a whole:
Clearly a massive talent and a fine singer, and the show did have its highlights like this but… the mixes of the songs didn’t always work, the baseball cap and jacket were a distraction and while I’ve survived shows starting later (yes Alanis… I mean you!), it still sucks. And as for that O2 priority queue thing at the Brixton Academy: what an insult to music lovers. Not like that’s any artists fault though.
Hopefully, this won’t deter future attendees: she happens to have two dates coming up this week in Birmingham and Manchester.
