Thanks to the huge backlash and subsequent protests, the Barbican in London has officially cancelled all performances of Brett Bailey’s Exhibit B, which was essentially an authentic rendition of a 19th century human zoo.
More than 200 people formed a blockade to the Waterloo venue’s entrance last night, providing enough static to the event that British Transport Police (over 50 officers) had to be called in in case the crowd turned violent. It was then when the Barbican shut everything down, due to the “extreme nature of the protest and the serious threat to the safety of performers, audiences and staff”. The remaining cancellations were confirmed this morning.
